Smokie is a 17.2 hand teddy bear who is 10 years old. He is a Thoroughbred gelding who raced only 7 times with 2 wins and one 2nd. He retired sound from racing because he demonstrated he was not going to be a top racehorse. Smokie then went on to be professionally trained as a hunter, competing at the recognized level in the Mid-Atlantic region.
He has been with TPR since last year and has shown in a dressage show as well as competing in jumper divisions at both Upperville and the Piedmont Classic last fall.
Smokie has been to Stoneleigh in Middleburg, Virginia to work under the tutelage of Joe Fargis consistently last year. When asked about Smoke, Joe stated: “Smoke is a good learner and citizen. There is some real talent in there.” He even participated in the George Morris clinic at Beverly Farm where George rode him. When George dismounted, he exclaimed, “You have a Rolls Royce!” Smokie has worked with Linda Zang, Jim Wofford, Stephen Bradley, Joe Fargis and George Morris. All have had very good things to say about this amazing boy.
Smokie continues to train for jumpers, solidly at the 3′ level and beyond. He is level headed and easy to work with. He is the same gentleman off the farm as he is at home. He has no vices or soundness issues. He had a tie back while racing so he must be fed on the ground.
He is offered for $25,000 to a great home where he can show how wonderful retired racehorses are. He is located at Leighton Farm in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
