Our Mission

Leighton Farm is involved in the rescue of horses whenever possible.  At this time we are almost totally self funded.  The thoroughbred horsemen do support the advertising of the site with a 10% commission fee for any horse sold.

The main goal of Leighton Farm is to provide racing owners and trainers a way to reach people who want show and riding horses.  In this way, we can direct retired racehorses into the right hands.  Our hope is that horses that may have ended up in the slaughter pipeline will instead enjoy meaningful, productive lives when their racing careers are over.

We are thoroughbred horsemen who are taking responsibility for our own retired racehorses.  What is happening is a cooperative effort on the backstretch by owners and trainers to get their horses into the best possible hands.  Too many times the responsibility falls on people outside the industry, when it should be borne by us.

We do help horses who are in trouble when we can.  The Little Guy is just one instance of the work we have done.  Some of the horses on the Graduates page have also needed help.
