Leighton Farm, is involved in many areas of the
thoroughbred industry. We provide a peaceful environment to rest or
let down racehorses. Many of these horses are getting a much deserved rest
from their racing careers. In addition, we break horses to saddle for both
racing and pleasure. We also specialize in transitioning horses who
are retiring from racing to other riding disciplines. We've been working
with Thoroughbreds for over thirty years, this gives us a unique and thorough
understanding of them, making it much easier on the horse.

Re-schooling the off track Thoroughbred is a major
part of the work we do here.
We now have Elizabeth Madlener,
Grand Prix Dressage coach and Judge working with the horses and Kim
Clark, to provide a solid foundation for the rest of the horse's life.
Elizabeth was selected to school with the Olympic team with both of her
off track Thoroughbreds and has been considered a premier expert on
their retraining. You can find out more by

Leighton Farm participates in the sale
of thoroughbreds retiring from racing, commonly known as ottb's. We provide quality retraining
for show and pleasure. Many of our horses go
on to be eventers, hunters, dressage and dependable riding horses.
Most, but not all of the horses for sale are
thoroughbred prospects, but we do occasionally have another breed.
With over twenty years in Maryland racing, we
have a unique understanding of the thoroughbred racing industry. We've
cultivated many relationships with trainers who care about the future of their
horses. We help these reputable trainers sell horses who are more suited
to other equestrian disciplines. The horses that go on this site must meet
certain criteria. I am very selective when we represent the horses of
other trainers. Having been in the racing business for thirty years gives
me an inside view.
We are actively involved in the
placement and rescue
of thoroughbreds who are in need. Both through funding and direct
involvement. We created a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization called Thoroughbred Placement and Rescue,
Inc. , that is greatly expanding this work. Check out the new
website at

As can be seen by the before and after photos of
Grandy Bear. Our efforts are paying off!
I've selected each board member because of their contributions
to the cause of these horses. Together we will be a greater force then we
have been individually.
