"Rocky"

Eastbound is a beautiful bay Thoroughbred gelding who stands 17.2 hands.  He is very kind and 8 years old.

He doesn't have any vices, but has suffered from epm and we've treated him with Marquis.  His former owners did not treat him and allowed the disease to progress significantly before we got him here.  Consequently he has muscle atrophy and will need rehabilitation in the form of hacking in order to see how much he will recover.

We are planning to begin this in the next two weeks.  We are looking to either rehome him permanently or to find a foster to do this work for us.

We always have a long wait list to get into Leighton Farm and due to the long time commitment involved with Rocky, we would like to find someone to be his benefactor.

We have started hacking him around the farm and while is is weak, he is being a perfect gentleman.

If you are interested in helping with Rocky through either adoption or foster care, please contact me.

Cal is a 16 hand, incredibly friendly chestnut Thoroughbred gelding.  He just arrived at Leighton Farm yesterday, January 1, 2012.  Happy New Year Cal!

He raced three times but does not want to be a racehorse - he really never did.

He is a very nice mover and four years old.  Call has no vices or soundness issues.  He has been lovingly trained by his breeders, a husband and wife team at Bowie Training Center.

I'm really tight on time so I have to do things when I can.  It happened that when he arrived on the farm, it was sunny and nice.  I also had volunteers here to do the filming.  so less than two hours after he arrived at Leighton Farm,  I got on him and we made the video.

I think this demonstrates what an especially nice horse, Cal is.  He's going to make someone a happy horse owner and I don't think there's anything this boy can't do.

Cal is up to date on his vaccinations and has a current coggins.

Cal is priced at $1,000 and is located at Leighton Farm in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

"Delilah"

Delilah is a gorgeous gray Thoroughbred filly who had an unremarkable and consequently short racing career.  Our volunteer remarked to the trainer that she bet the track announcer had a tough time with her name during the race, but he responded that the announcer didn't need to say it very often.  Her registered name is WhyWhyDelilah.

Delilah is three years old and stands 16 hands already.  She's going to be one big girl once she grows up!

Delilah has no vices and is perfectly sound.  No racing injuries, not fast enough.

Click here to see her video.

She has been introduced to cross ties and is very good for a greenie.  She ships like a dream and is easy to work with on the ground.  At the present time, I am hacking her on the farm and not working her in the arena at all.  I feel she is too young for that sort of work right now.  In 30 or 60 days I will begin ring work and her price will be adjusted to reflect that.  In the video, that is the first time I was ever on her (volunteers have been hacking her).  It was also her first time in the arena.  I think it's obvious how nice this filly is.

Delilah is available for a tax deductible donation to Thoroughbred Placement and Rescue, Inc. of $ 2,500 and is located at Leighton Farm in  Upper Marlboro, Maryland.  Please contact me for more information.

"Jaks"

Jaks is a five year old Not For Love filly who was a good racehorse.  She recently lost her interest and rather than continue to run her or worse send her to a lesser track, her trainer retired her.  She is a lucky girl as she retires completely sound of mind and body.

Jaks stands a tad over 16 hands and has no vices.  She is up to date on vaccinations and has a current coggins.

She is an elegant mover with tons of potential.

She cross ties, ships and is easy to work with on the ground.  Jaks is currently hacking on the farm, learning to longe and is beginning work in the arena.  I am focusing on walk and trot but have cantered her and it is a lovely, naturally balanced gait.

Jaks is available for a tax deductible donation to Thoroughbred Placement and Rescue, Inc. of $ 2,500 and is located at Leighton Farm in  Upper Marlboro, Maryland.  Please contact me for more information.

"Constant Star"

Click here to see her pedigree.

Click here to see her race record.

Beautiful Star has been off the track since she was two, being hacked and allowed to grow by a loving owner.  Now at five years old she has begun serious work.  I've had her here at Leighton Farm since September and have found her to be a consummate lady.  She has been building strength and stamina and skills.

As she builds up, we see her true potential.  Star works well with other horses or alone.  She is turned out with three other fillies and they are gal pals.

Star is 16 hands and has no vices.  Click here to see her videos.  SShe just participated in her first dressage show and won both classes with a 66 and 67%!  I've added a video of one of her tests.

Star participated in her first jumper show on December 3, 2011 and handled this new experience like a champion.  I rode her in three 2' jumper classes.  Her second show was at Swan Lake in Pennsylvania.  They had a Christmas tree surrounded by reindeer in the center of the course!  Star handled it and continues to develop.

Star shows great potential with jumping, being very cat like and smart.  Everyone working with her agrees that she is very good with her knees.  I am currently jumping her twice per week over low obstacles and she likes it.  She has now shipped off the farm to work with David Loman, Jim Wofford and Sharon White.  Elizabeth Madlener is overseeing her dressage development.  She is cantering lines and doing basic gymnastics.  Star has jumped up to 3' at this point easily, but she is schooling 2'6".

The more I do with this girl, the more impressed I become.  She has a great mind and that's as important as the talent she is exhibiting.

Star is offered for a $10,000 tax deductible donation to Thoroughbred Placement and Rescue, Inc.  She is stabled at Leighton Farm in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

"Eddie"

Sold

I know what you're thinking, that's no Thoroughbred.  True, but he belongs to a Thoroughbred breeder and owner.  He bought Eddie for his grandson to show.  His grandson turned 16, got a driver's license and found girls.  Bill needed my help to sell Eddie.

Eddie is a fancy, calm, dependable guy.  He has learned how to jump, but I would still consider him green.  I sent him to my H/J coach David Loman to evaluate him since Eddie is out of my area of expertise.  He likes him and rode him in the video that is included in this description.

This boy has a great future ahead of him as a show or pleasure horse.  He is a huge 16.3 hands and 6 years old.

Totally non spooky or  overreactive.  That would burn too many calories.

I can say that I can safely put anyone on him and not have a worry.  He's a good guy.

He has a current coggins and is up to date on vaccinations.

Eddie is sound with no vices.  He gets along well with others, but his turn out buddy Doctor James is much faster than he is.

The latest news is that Eddie participated in his first jumper show on December 3, 2011.  He never put a hoof wrong.  No refusals, just not fast around the course yet.  He was in the 2' classes.  There are plans to do another jumper show in December.

Eddie is a registered Paint.  His full name is TMF Mr. Ed's Barlink.  You can come see him at Leighton Farm and he is offered for $6,500.
