We have three categories of horses for sale. "On Track", horses stabled at the track or
training center.
"Off Track", horses located on a
farm. "Looking For A Home", horses offered at no
charge to the right home.
One of our Graduates, sold to Mary Grantham Cook
in November 2007.
"Just thought I
would give you an update on Revy. He was 3rd at
the American Eventing Championships in Chicago
this past weekend out of 38 horses! He was with
the best in the country and was outstanding. He
also won the Heritage Park horse trials 3 weeks
ago. Here is a picture that was on the
Chronicle of the Horse that was taken on Cross
Country in the pouring rain! He was unphased as
usual! "
At Leighton Farm, we are involved in many areas of the
thoroughbred industry.
We provide a peaceful environment to rest or
let down racehorses. Many of these horses are getting a much deserved rest
from their racing careers. We also specialize in letting down horses who
are retiring from racing.
Re-schooling for new disciplines is a major
part of the work we do here.
Leighton Farm participates in the sale
of thoroughbreds retiring from racing, commonly known as ottb's. We are helping reputable trainers
sell horses
who are more suited to other equestrian disciplines. Many of our horses go
on to be eventers, hunters, dressage and dependable riding horses.
Most, but not all of the horses for sale are
thoroughbred prospects and a few are other breeds.
With over twenty years in Maryland racing, we
have a unique understanding of the thoroughbred racing industry. We've
cultivated many relationships with trainers who care about the future of their
horses.
We are actively involved in the
rescue
of thoroughbreds who are in need. Both through funding and direct
involvement. We now have a non-profit organization called Thoroughbred Placement and Rescue,
Inc., that is greatly expanding this work.
As can be seen by the before and after photos of
Grandy Bear. Our efforts are paying off!
Thoroughbred Placement and Rescue, Inc. has 501(c)(3)non profit
status. This organization has been formed to
take over and expand the work Leighton Farm has
been doing. I've selected each board member because of their contributions
to the cause of these horses. Together we will be a greater force then we
have been individually. Check out the new website at
www.HelpForTbs.org
We also help horsemen place horses who are not
saleable. Sometimes due to young age or imperfection. You can check
out our
Graduates page to see some of our success stories.
